    The Independent Filmmaker Showcase was organized by Treepot Media, a company founded in 2010 by [Jith] Paul. The company works with local artists, musicians and filmmakers to broadcast content on its own Internet television channel, Treepot.tv.

    “I have a lot of friends in town who make movies and we all collaborated on a lot of projects,” Paul said. “We thought it would be cool to see our work on a big screen, in a real theatre.”

    The 90-minute showcase offered films of various genres, from music videos to bloody horror flicks to emotional documentaries. A Canadian theme was definitely present in the films, from the bilingual short The Interview, which was filled with hilarious plot twists, to a playful rap about Tim Hortons.

    One standout film was Poetry in Motion, which featured a touching story about a poet with cerebral palsy. Paul personally asked the director to screen the film at the showcase after first seeing it at the Ottawa International Film Festival. READ MORE…
